Project Perspective
The Melbourne Racing Club at Caulfield Racecourse has continued its site-wide upgrade program by investing heavily in the hundreds of staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently. The result is a beautiful new administration building overlooking the southern section of the racecourse.
The project was a three-story building that would allow the entire administration arm of the organisation to work from a central location. It includes a range of office spaces, co-working spaces and hot desks along with quiet booths and collaboration spaces to allow each member of staff to work in a way that suits their style and role. In addition to these spaces, each floor has a series of meeting rooms and presentation spaces fitted out with all of the latest technology to ensure internal and online collaboration can be achieved with the minimum of complexities.
The internationally renowned Hassell Architecture was selected to design this new facility and, far from creating a drab and purely functional office building, serious consideration has been put into the layout and flow, natural materials, green spaces and facilities befitting a modern office. The end result is a light-filled, warm and inviting space with equal portions of meeting spaces, functional spaces and areas designed for respite and inspiration.
Kane Constructions was awarded the build contract for this beautiful building and it was a pleasure to once again partner with them to deliver the AV systems, in association with WSP Consulting as the services consultant.
Technical Requirements
The meeting and presentation systems are designed around a complete Crestron solution utilising Crestron DM transmitters and receivers interoperated between HDMI extension and AV-over-IP depending on the room size and requirements.
Smaller meeting rooms were designed as Microsoft Teams Rooms and were fitted out with a Crestron Flex solution utilising the Mercury Mini tabletop device. Medium meeting rooms followed a similar design but utilised an all-in-one soundbar, with the three larger meeting rooms and the boardroom using ceiling tile microphones from Shure to complement the Crestron ceiling speakers and separate controller.
All rooms were fitted with a room booking panel for ease of booking and with the addition of the Lightbar it is easy to see what spaces are available at a glance.
LG displays were used throughout each space, with sizes ranging from 43” to 75” depending on the size of each area, up to a monster 100” LCD in the boardroom. An Epson high-brightness projector and Screen Technics screen, along with a Shure ULX-D microphone system, rounded out the equipment in the beautiful mezzanine presentation space. The whole space is managed by Crestron XIO Cloud, allowing both monitoring and reporting in-house and enhancing remote support from MultiTek Solutions as required.
Outcomes
The build timeline for this project was tight and designed to take place between race meets with minimal disruption. As such, it was essential for all teams to communicate and be meticulously organised to meet the build timeframe of 9 months. This was achieved with astonishing success and is a testament to the Kane Constructions project team and their subcontractors.
The final result of this project was a highly functional administration building packed with innovative spaces and all the design features of a modern building in its own right. From the garden entry to reception, the light-filled spaces, beautiful natural materials used in the construction and the range of collaboration spaces truly made this building worthy of design recognition. MultiTek Solutions was delighted to be a part of this project and proud to add this to our long list of completed works.
