Project Perspective
Melton City Council engaged H.Troon, alongside AV consultant Alder Technology Consulting and architect Mantric Architecture, to deliver a comprehensive audiovisual and communications system for Cobblebank Stadium, a major new community sports facility featuring six basketball courts, a large foyer, multi-purpose spaces, meeting rooms, clubrooms, change facilities, and dedicated administration offices for club operations.
As a high-capacity, multi-use venue, Cobblebank Stadium required a fully integrated system capable of supporting sporting events, community programs, meetings, and administrative functions simultaneously. A key objective was to ensure consistent communication across the entire facility, while also providing flexible, user-friendly AV systems that could adapt to a wide range of events and user groups.
Given the scale and complexity of the building, a unified and highly reliable approach to audio distribution, visual communication, and presentation systems was essential to support day-to-day operations and event delivery.
Technical Requirements
A building-wide paging system was implemented to ensure clear and reliable communication across all courts, foyer areas, circulation spaces, and back-of-house facilities. This was delivered using a Q-SYS DSP platform, with a dedicated paging microphone installed at reception, enabling staff to make instantaneous announcements across the entire stadium when required.
The system also supports show court streaming and recording, allowing live and recorded content to be viewed both online and throughout the facility on LG commercial displays. This ensures key games and events can be accessed by audiences on-site while also extending reach beyond the venue.
Meeting rooms and clubrooms were fitted with a standardised audiovisual package consisting of LG commercial displays, Crestron AirMedia for wired and wireless presentation, and Crestron control button panels for simple, intuitive operation. This consistent approach ensures ease of use across all administrative and community spaces within the facility.
The multi-purpose space was designed to accommodate a broad range of events and includes an 86-inch LG commercial display, Crestron AirMedia for presentation, Shure ULXD wireless microphone systems with handheld and lapel options, Crestron ceiling speakers for even coverage, and a Listen Technologies RF hearing augmentation system to ensure full accessibility for all users.
Across the entire facility, BrightSign media players were deployed to enable all displays to revert to digital signage when not in active use. This allows the stadium to deliver consistent messaging, event information, and wayfinding across all public-facing screens.
The scale of Cobblebank Stadium introduced significant technical and logistical challenges, including long cable runs across a large footprint, coordination across multiple functional zones, and difficult site access during construction. Careful planning and close coordination with the builder were required to ensure efficient installation and alignment with the construction program.
Outcomes
The completed solution delivers a robust, scalable, and highly integrated audiovisual environment across Cobblebank Stadium, supporting both elite sporting use and community engagement.
The building-wide paging system ensures staff can communicate clearly and efficiently across all areas of the facility, improving safety, coordination, and operational responsiveness during both events and day-to-day operations.
Show court streaming and recording extends the reach of the venue, enabling games and events to be viewed both on-site and remotely, enhancing accessibility and audience engagement.
Across meeting rooms, clubrooms, and administrative spaces, users benefit from a consistent and intuitive AV experience, reducing complexity and ensuring systems are easy to operate for a wide range of users, from staff to visiting community groups.
The multi-purpose space provides a flexible, high-performance environment capable of supporting everything from community meetings to large events, with professional-grade audio, video, and accessibility systems ensuring reliable performance in all scenarios.
Despite the challenges associated with the scale of the facility and construction logistics, the project was successfully delivered through close coordination with the project team. The result is a future-ready communications and AV platform that supports the operational, sporting, and community functions of Cobblebank Stadium.
