Project Perspective

As part of the continued development of St Francis Xavier College’s Berwick Campus, MultiTek Solutions was engaged to deliver the audio visual systems for the General Purpose Flexible Learning Area (GPFLA) Stage 2 and 2A project.

Working under Devco Construction, AV consultant UT Consulting, and architects Bellemo & Cat, MultiTek Solutions delivered a comprehensive AV solution across a diverse range of educational spaces, including classrooms, learning areas, collaboration spaces, meeting rooms, specialist areas, and staff environments.

The project represented a significant expansion of the College’s learning facilities, with the AV systems required to support a modern approach to education: one that encourages collaboration, flexibility, and technology-enabled learning.

With more than 50 individual spaces requiring tailored AV solutions, one of the key challenges was ensuring consistency throughout the facility. Teachers and staff needed to be able to move between rooms and confidently operate systems without needing to learn different technology platforms for each environment.

Technical Requirements

The AV design prioritised simplicity, reliability, and consistency, while ensuring each space was equipped to support its intended purpose.

Classrooms and learning areas were fitted with consistent presentation systems, incorporating commercial display technology and integrated audio solutions. To improve classroom audio performance, traditional soundbar solutions were replaced with distributed ceiling speaker systems in key teaching spaces, providing improved, even coverage and a more natural listening experience for both teachers and students. These systems utilise low profile ceiling speakers paired with dedicated amplification to deliver clear and even audio throughout the room.

A range of flexible collaboration spaces were equipped with commercial displays, integrated sound solutions, HDMI connectivity, and Crestron button panel controllers, providing users with simple and intuitive control over each room’s AV functions.

Interactive learning was supported through the inclusion of HDi Flex interactive displays, providing teachers and students with an engaging platform for digital collaboration and content delivery.

Meeting and collaboration spaces required additional functionality, including wireless presentation and video conferencing capability. A dedicated meeting room was equipped with a Crestron Flex conferencing system, while other spaces incorporated Crestron AirMedia solutions to allow users to share content wirelessly from their own devices.

The project also required significant coordination due to the scale of the deployment and the staged construction program. MultiTek Solutions worked closely with the builder, consultants, IT services, and other trades to ensure all AV infrastructure and systems were delivered seamlessly alongside the broader project

Outcomes

The completed GPFLA Stage 2 / 2A project provides St Francis Xavier College with a consistent, reliable, and future-ready AV environment designed around the needs of contemporary education.

Through careful system standardisation, teachers and staff can confidently move between classrooms, collaboration spaces, and meeting areas knowing the technology will operate in a familiar and intuitive way. This reduces complexity, minimises training requirements, and allows users to focus on teaching and learning rather than managing technology.

The combination of commercial displays, integrated audio, interactive learning technology, and flexible collaboration systems has created an environment that supports a wide variety of teaching styles and student engagement opportunities.

Delivered as part of the College’s ongoing investment in modern learning facilities, this project demonstrates MultiTek Solutions’ ability to deliver large scale education technology solutions that balance performance, usability, and aesthetics, creating spaces that are ready to support the evolving needs of students and educators.
