WorkSafe Victoria – Geelong Office Expansion

Project Perspective

As WorkSafe continues to expand it’s workforce in Geelong, additional office space was required to house the growing workforce. As Victoria’s workplace health and safety regulator, the organisation provides dual purposes of both preventing workplace harm and also improving outcomes for injured workers.

Local Architecture firm 3iD Architecture were tasked with designing the fitout in an existing cold shell building less than one block from WorkSafe’s main Geelong headquarters. Plan Group were then brought on board to complete the build.

Rather than engage an Audio Visual Consultant, WorkSafe Victoria instead put the works out to public tender as a design and construct project, with MultiTek Solutions successful on their bid and selected to complete the project.

The project would see around 16 spaces fitted out with cutting edge audio visual systems.

Technical Requirements

Around 10 meeting rooms were fitted out with video conferencing facilities comprising of dual Sony Bravia commercial LCD screens ranging from 43″ to 75″, a video conferencing soundbar and a Microsoft Teams Room solution both by Crestron.

A further 4 large multipurpose spaces were included in the project, 3 of which can be combined to form one extra large presentation space. These rooms utilised Crestron NVX, a state of the art AVoIP solution that uses WorkSafe’s computer network to transport audio and video signals between a comms rack where all equipment was housed and the rooms themselves. PTZ cameras enabled participants in the room to be seen no matter the room configuration, while Sennheiser TeamConnect 2 ceiling microphones allow them to be heard. Epson laser projectors provide a 130″ screen in each space, allowing both local presentations and video conferencing to be easily viewed by all in room participants.

Crestron Room booking panels complete with occupancy indicator lights were installed at the entrance of each room, allowing staff to easily see if and when a room is booked.

Outcomes

The project was delivered over a three month period, with MultiTek Solutions working closely alongside the builder’s program to ensure all works were completed on schedule and in alignment with the broader construction timeline.

Beyond delivery, the project also introduced innovative technology that enhances the day to day functionality of the space. A key feature was the integration of Casper Cloaking Film to internal meeting room glazing -Unlike traditional frosted films, this solution maintains full visibility into the room while selectively blocking on screen content from external view.

The result is a more open and connected workplace environment that does not compromise on privacy. Staff can easily determine room occupancy at a glance, while sensitive information displayed during meetings remains discreet, striking a balance between transparency, usability, and security.
