City of Greater Geelong

Western Oval

PROJECT PLAN

Geelong’s Western Oval is a regionally significant reserve and boasts a turf wicket, velodrome, and well-developed oval. The reserve has a heritage listed grandstand and social facilities and is home to St Peters Football and Netball Club, Geelong Cycling Club, and the Cheetahs.

The City of Greater Geelong grappled with the issue of how to identify and monitor the individual energy consumption accrued by different groups using the facilities. A modern lighting system capable of breaking down, tracking, and recording separate usage by groups was required.

One of MultiTek’s main aims, apart from creating a functional and easy to use lighting system was to produce a console that was able to record accurately and monitor each client’s particular electricity usage. Thus making the bill splitting process as fair and stress-free as possible, by charging everyone correctly for their specific energy consumption.

FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

MultiTek Solutions developed a smart solution to what seemed a difficult problem. MultiTek designed and installed an ingenious ‘check and control’ system operating on an innovative ‘log in and logged out’ platform for users. Ultimately, the whole billing process for the COGG is now simple and frictionless. Previously, it has been difficult to apportion electricity costs among groups and community members; now it's easy to identify the precise power consumption and costs of specific groups using the lights on the Western Oval, and bill them accordingly.

The new lighting system has a built-in timer and energy saving component that automatically shuts the lights off within five minutes of a club logging out. The Geelong community diversely utilises the facilities found at the Western Oval, and the new touch panel controls make it easy for organisations and community members to enter their user names and passwords, ultimately eliminating any confusion or crossover of lighting energy use.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

Metering energy consumption and collecting data has never been easier for the COGG. The new system installed by MultiTek Solutions is raising energy awareness enabling those groups using the facilities to measure, manage, and control their club’s energy consumption, saving precious dollars in the process. Additionally, energy efficient lighting contributes to a more sustainable planet.

MultiTek Solutions enjoyed collaborating with the COGG to resolve what appeared to be a complex issue and is happy to have contributed to this recent upgrade to energy efficient lighting at Western Oval. This project gets a 'green' tick of approval by MultiTek.
