In 2010, Basso Project Management was appointed to oversee the major redevelopment of Warrnambool's Performing Arts Centre. MultiTek Solutions was contracted to complete the main Theatre Infrastructure and Equipment upgrade.
The technical specifications included massive upgrades to all stage lighting and sound systems throughout the venue. Innovation, practicality, and attention to detail were all high on the Audio Visual brief, with the latest front, and back-of-house theatre technology required.
MultiTek Solutions installed a digital signage system in the foyer enabling latecomers to view what’s happening on stage. An innovative paging system with an ambient noise sensor and an automatic volume adjuster was also installed.
The Audio Visual systems designed by Marshall Day Entertech were professionally installed by MultiTek to accommodate not only large audiences and performances but also small, cutting edge, professional plays requiring an intimate ambience.
Backstage, a Cue Lighting System with a portable outstation application was installed by MultiTek to provide actors freedom of movement while allowing for performance readiness cues with a function of alerting actors to proceed on or off stage as required. A green light denoting ‘standby’ and a red light indicating to go on stage ‘now’. The mobile outstations were created to be wall mountable, or conveniently hung over the back of a stage set.
“Overall the technology has made the venue safer and more efficient. Working with MultiTek has improved the sound and communications system throughout the entire building.” Greg Diamantis, Manager Lighthouse Theatre, 2013, Stage Whispers
The refurbished facility is now attracting high caliber performance artists to the region, as the centre’s capabilities are greater than ever before. The new technology installed by MultiTek Solutions assists performance artists to achieve greater scope within their work.
“We can honestly state that right from the tender period, MultiTek and in particular Gavin Hulme, were on top of the design and the construction and completely coordinated, assisted and worked in with all other trades on site as required.” Elia Basso, Director at Basso Project Management
Completed in 2011, the $9.2 million arts centre redesigned by William Ross Architects has injected new life into the heart of the coastal town. Re-named the Lighthouse Theatre, the revamped venue is already adding to the growing vivacity of Warrnambool’s cultural hub.
MultiTek Solutions is proud to have played a significant role in raising the bar on Theatre Technology in Victoria's South West region.
